Shots & Angles
Throughout Films and TV Series we see different types of shots and angles which are used for many reasons and to give different viewpoints of situations. Whether thats to show emotion, a persons surroundings or even conversation, different shots play a big part in the industry. Down below you will find different types of shots and angles.
Close Up Shot
A close up shot is used so that the characters face is the main focus of the the frame. This can also be used to show emotion within the character.
Medium Shot
A medium shot is used to empathise both the character and their surroundings by giving them an equal presence. This is also used to clearly show the characters emotions whilst we are still able to see their surroundings and everything going on around them.
Wide shot
A wide angle shot is used to set the scene by letting the audience know who is there, where they are and where everything is taking place.
High Shot
A high shot is used to empathise vulnerability within the character, mainly because they are faced with something coming from up above that could be a threat
Low Shot
A low shot can be used to convey a number of emotions and feelings within the scene. It is used to assert dominance as you as a viewer feel like you stand the lower ground
Dutch Shot
Dutch shots are used to create a sense of distortion and unease within the audience or even a sense of tension and psychological trauma within the character who the camera is focused on
Over The Shoulder Shot
Over the shoulder shots focus on the back of the shoulder and the head of a subject which mainly occurs within a conversation within 2 people
